Industrial vs. Goth

SuperTorus:
Ah.. ok. thanks.

Drachenkind:
How commercial is our mainstream?
As the other wrote about the good music, I play the bad guy. :)
A bit more about mainstream.

German country music is really on world niveau, as terrible as everyone else country shit.
Our German HipHop, R&B is terrible without world niveau, but nevertheless, radio station play this garbage.
Then we have TV casting shows for bands, which produce countless numbers of music monkeys. Clone of an clone.
Once a year the European Song Contest gives the worst of the worst German mainstream it's audience. People freak out the last time, for an guy in his early twenties, with nearly no hair on his head and an voice that wins in the "Valium 2004" contest.
For the rest this time is a major suffering.
Certainly we get bombarded by mainstream crap from the USA & UK, which doensn't improve things.
So we have lots of shity bands which become known for 1-2 songs and thankfully vanishing, to be replaced by some other.

Have you in the USA this terrible phenomen of the "summer song"?
A artificial "be happy" summer song, played up and down in the radio/tv.
This year O-Zone "Dragos ..."
Torture, pure torture. Repeating an audio, painful, brain deleting song on and on, that is torture.

My personal taste.
I like Metal, Indepandant, the more melodic gothic bands (Deine Lakaien)and medieval-rock bands.
Don't know if this direction is known in the USA.
Bands like In Extremo, Schandmaul, Subway to Sally. As they are quite text dependant, and singing mainly German, don't know if they're so interesting outside.
As Indepandant didn't evolve lately and Metal has an good upstart again :)
more Metal lately.
Industrial doesn't really suit my dancestyle, as most Electric bands.
Nethertheless, I go to clubs with these music, as it is quite better than the mainstream.

The reason most American rivetheads hold Germany up as the "birth place" of Industrial music, rightly or wrongly, is because of the major influence Einstruerzende Neubauten had on later UK and US industrial bands. I know that EN was not a geniune "Industrial" band, but you can't ignore the major influence they had on later bands that would get slapped with the industrial label.

--- Zitat ---But as "W" already said it is hardly played in the radio. Instead they play a lot of that R&B, Hip-Hop, Funk & soul, which is something I hate even more.
--- Ende Zitat ---

I'm a little suprised. It's been a few years since bands like Ministry, NIN, Prodigy, Front 242 and KMFDM were played regularly on U.S. radio, but occationally the genre does still get some limited airplay here. I thought that it would be more commercially popular in Germany than it actually is.

Now when you say "German country music", you are not actually referring to cowboy hats, rednecks and twangy guitar country....correct? I'm assuming you're referring to something more traditionally European like German folk or something right?

Also, is the European Song Contest the same as that Eurovision thing? I'm only slightly familiar with this contest.

I don't think so.

Metal is slowly resurfacing in the U.S. But not that glam-metal shit like Poison or Motley Crue. It's different Metal. Most Metalheads also listen to Industrial, because in America, Industrial, goth, and Metal (to a degree) sort of go hand in hand, kind of like in Germany, and, I'm assuming, in other countries as well. I don't listen to much Metal, but one band that I do like is Kill Switch Engage.

Scandanavian bands are slowly gaining popularity among the younger kids. I think there is a band from Finland that is getting noticed over here. Also, there are a slew of American grind-core/death-Metal bands that are played on TV. We have a channel that plays pretty interesting stuff. It's on cable so you guys might get it too.

Uranium: Plays videos by Scandanavian and American Grind/Metal (what ever you want to call it) bands. It also plays alot of industrial and hybrid bands like Rammstein, KMFDM and Suicide Commando.

Rockzilla: Plays lot's of Metal and some punk. Alot of the punk bands they play sound kind of commercial though.

schneeball:
Oh, I almost forgot. This will be my last question. Is David Hasselhoff still popular in Germany?

Drachenkind:
No, Hasselhof isn't popular anylonger.
Now we have Dieter Bohlen. He is an true homemade singing terror, and sadly an music producer. So his "minions" continue his work.
But some things should be burried under a mantle of silence.
*shudder*

Sorry, with country, I reffered to German folk music.
And Eurovision is now called European Song Contest often.
